This route can strike our paddlers as quite a dramatic nature experience; you paddle along the high vertical precipice that dives straight down in the deeper parts of lake Vättern. The beech forest is hanging above us on the cliffs and the surface reflects it so beautifully so that the water here has an almost turquoise colour. You can find several cave systems and interesting stone formations. A few times each summer the water here is calm, but more often in summer the southern breeze will make the paddling here more action filled and fun.
Mount Omberg offers an excitingly lush environment in the heart of Vättern lake region famous for its golden plains. It’s situated right in between the towns of Vadstena and Gränna. Our rental facility is in Hästholmen harbour, 3 km south of Omberg. Paddling from here to the caves of Omberg’s west coast takes about 45-60 minutes. Most of our visitors go halfway up along the mountain to Älvarums udde and back, which is a route that takes approximately 4 hours.

What to pack? Dress comfortably! Oftentimes paddlers have dressed too warmly, when you paddle along the shore you generally stay warm. Cotton gets heavy when wet and dries slowly, functional clothes with rainwear on top is a better idea. Bring a bottle of water that you can keep close. In the double kayaks there are waterproof pockets for smaller gadgets such as mobile phones and cameras. Larger bags and things you don’t need whilst paddling can be stored under the front and rear hatches.
